Mykl Stanley, a recent Vegas transplant from Milwaukee, Wisconsin
started playing guitar while he was a theatre major in college.
He quickly formed a duo with a college friend and realized it
was music, and not acting that put his performance skills to their
best use.
In 1992 this duo grew into a classic rock trio known as the "Suburban
Gypsies". After several successful years with the Gypsies,
Mykl began to build a name for himself in the Milwaukee music
scene. With recognition came choices. Mykl was asked to join another
band called the Orphans, the top rated cover band in Wisconsin,
often referred to as "the human jukebox" as they carried
a 400 - 500 song repertoire.
Mykl joined the Orphans in 1995. They regularly played anywhere
from 225 - 300 days a year. During an almost 8 year run with the
Orphans, Mykl had the opportunity to rub elbows with some of the
classic rock greats. He has opened for many amazing acts such
as the Doobie Brothers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, E.L.O., Joan Jett
and R.E.O. Speedwagon to name a few. The honor did not come with
much surprise as the Orphans had their own rock star, former Arista
recording artist, Keedy,
who's song "Save Some Love" went to Billboard Magazine's
#13 in 1991 in the U.S. and went #1 in Japan. Mykl was not only
lucky enough to share the stage with this fellow Orphan but they
were also good friends and writing partners. Keedy is currently
working on a new album, which will feature some of the songs they
wrote.
Even with the Orphans' continuing success, Mykl and Keedy both
felt they needed a break so in 2002 they both quit the band. Mykl
and Keedy spent most of their time in the studio writing and recording.
After a while Mykl really missed performing and the stage started
to call to him again. Rather then going back to what he used to
do he and his wife Suzee decided it was time for a change and
on a total whim picked up and moved to Las Vegas.
So in early 2004, Mykl set up shop in Las Vegas where he started
at square one again. After a few months of the local open mic
scene, he came upon Jeremiah Vaught, another
recent Vegas transplant from Washington State.
Jeremiah was young, with little stage experience but plenty of
talent, hunger and a love for the same acoustic classic rock &
folk music. Mykl was reminded of himself years ago and now he
had a chance to maybe give back some of the knowledge he had learned
over the years from his former band mates to this talented young
man. So on that fateful day that these two met, a page was turned
and 8-Track Romeo was born.
